    Posted Apr 24, 2018 05:18 AM

    Hello everyone,

I have two remote site-A and site-B with 1MB link. I would to set up a replication partner in Site-A which will replicate the data from SEPM 14 in site-B. the sem5.db in site-B is around 20GB.

I would like to know that how much time would it take approximately for the replication to complete as I install SEPM in site-A as a replication partner???

And what do I need to make sure that the initial replication cycle should be completed sucuessfuly as the SEPM is installed in site-A

    Thanks

The answer depends on what are you replicating? Do you want to replicate all, or just one of: Polices and Groups, Client Packages and Content Updated (do not recommend over 1Mbps link) and Logs.

Take a look at Best Practice to determine type and replication schedule:

    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH160642.html

You can also truncate logs before replication.

If you are looking just the time needed to transfer 20GB over 1Mbps link (in theory), it is:

    Speed: 1 MB/s
    Size: 20 GB
    6 Hours, 15 Minutes and 28 Seconds

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

As you are aware that the first time you set up/install the replication partner it would be a full replication. You cannot control at that time what to replicate.

Once the installation is complete then we are only planning to replicate policies/groups only , no logs, live update or packages.

    Thanks.

You should bring second SEPM server from site A on site B, create replication, wait for first replication to be complete in local network, and then move the server back to the site A.

Can anyone tell me the location of the and name zip package which the SEPM is going to replicate?

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Inetpub\ClientPackages

where the package name will be a randomly named folder. It may also have multiple files in here depending on what's been added/deletd.

would it be a zip file? can you also tell me what would be its name?

No zip. It's a randomly named folder which equates to the package name in SEPM. Each folder contents multipe contents with a full and full.zip folder plus delta's.

it will be inside an alaphanumeric folder for each package visible inside SEPM

inside each folder it will have full.zip and FULL folder will package source.

Thanks, the size of all of these files are 600 MB. The initial replication is being stuck  at 5%  ( which started to happen as I installed the secondary SEPM as a replication partner)  from the last 2 hours.

The speed of the link is 1MB , so what do you in approximately how much time would it be able to complete? Thanks

I can't give an exact estimate other than to say 'many hours', probably 7+. You're transferring over 3 GB over a 1 MB line.

Hi brian just a correction the total size of all the files in the above screenshot is 600MB ans not 3GB.

so even then do you think that roughly it might take 7+ hours to replicate it?

    Thanks

No, then maybe 1.5 to 2 or so.

those are default packages which will get installed once you install the new SEPM as replication partner

Check the Data.zip under outbox folder located under ( source SEPM)

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\data\outbox

it will be written under on Destination SEPM ( replication partner, destination SEPM)

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\data\inbox

Hi Rafeeq thanks for answering this is the information I needed. It is very odd the replication got stuck at 5% don't know for what reasons. Can you please tell me what logs I need to look into to identify why the replication got failed ? Thanks

Thanks Rafeeq . However the strange thing was when I looked into the source and destination SEPMs under the locations which you mentioned above, I couldn't find data.zip neither in the inbox or outbox folders. What could be the possible reason for that and how can I know about it ?

Just one additional query, is there any default time out interval value in SEPM 14 for the initial replication . For example if the data from the destination SEPM is not replicated to the destination SEPM in x amount of time the replication process will fail ? Can we fine tune this value to a longer interval for replication if it is failing because of this reason ? Thanks in advance.

    Hi SymSpec,

There is no time limit of this nature for a replication job.  As long as the connection remains active and data is being transferred, it will continue to replicate until completion.  It's expected that an initial replication could contain quite a bit of data, and is also likely to be occurring over a WAN link.

Grateful please how to copy firewall rules from old (window server2008) to new one(win10) on Symantec endpoint manager version 14 ?

    Many thanks!
