  • 1.  Reporting Computers with 32 bit OS

    Posted Jun 20, 2016 09:06 AM

    Hello,

We have generally used the filed from dbo.vcomputer.[System Type] to report whether or not a computer is a 32-bit machine which is the same field we have found used in Altiris out-of-the-box reports. This field is now returning some false data for us. Is anyone aware of a different field that may report other than "WHERE dbo.vcomputer.[System Type] LIKE 'win32')".

We have also tried a vairety of other [System Type] fields (dbo.vcomputerex.[System type], dbo.Inv_AeX_AC_Identification.[System Type], etc) with the same results.

Also, is anyone else experiencing false positives for this for newly imaged machines?

    Thank you!

I do not know if it is applicable for version 7.6 however for version 7.0 if you use Active Directory import the System Type is not populated (http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH46825).

If that is not the case make sure the "Basic Invetory" is correctly reported in after that image is installed on the machine. Maybe add some "Senb Basic Inventory" job in the image job.

    Hi Stefan!

Thank you for the excellent suggestion. We figured out the issue that was causing the false positive 32 bit computers: until a full inventory is run on the computer, it is reporting the machine as a Win32 machine (possibly due to the AD import only, like Stefan's article indicates). Once the full inventory is run, the computer rightly reports that it is a Win64 machine.

    Thank you again, Stefan!
