  • 1.  Resource Import Tool error: "Unable to copy the image to the local package server"

    Posted May 14, 2016 05:51 AM

I'm trying to import a GHO image to my NS, but every time I run ResourceImportTool.exe to do so, I get this error box: "Unable to copy the image to the local package server"

I tried running the tool from cmd line as well, by filling out Import.XML, but it did not give me any output, and did not succeed either because I don't see the imported image files under "<NS>\\NSCap\bin\Deployment\Packages\Images\".

Things were working fine before I upgraded to 7.6 HF7. Any ideas why this could be happening?

I am attaching screenshots and my XML file. Kindly have a look. Thanks in advance.

(PS: I am running as admin, and the user has CMDB write access.)

    Hi dhruvjalota,

A few day ago Symantec released "DS 7.6 Post HF7 Cumulative Rollup Pointfix" which was available in the KB  (TECH234364).
Right now you cannot access this KB Articel because it seems to be offline...

Maybe you can contact Symantec Support and request a copy of this Pointfix.

There is also a new Version of the RessourceImportTool.exe File (reported as the same Version but the Filesize is different...)

Hope this solves the issue with the Resource Import Tool.

PS: If you want send me a PM and I´ll send you a copy of the PointFix.

    dhruvjalota,

Did you get this issue resolved?  I'm getting the same error after upgrading to 7.6 HF7.  If so, did the pointfix resolve your issue?

Yes, ridiculous...that worked!  Thanks for help.  I had called support and wanted me to apply the pointfix too.  Glad you found a workaround.

Well, I worked with Symantec Support on this one. I was told that the pointfix in question was not applicable here, and would not help the issue. So the workaround we found, was a pretty funny one.

Basically, we created a folder named "Tools" under the parent drive where altiris is installed on the NS, and a file named "ResourceImportTool.log" in that folder. This fixed the issue and I am now able to import images on my NS.

So, your tool is located at "X:\Program Files\Altiris\Deployment\Tools\", and you create the mentioned folder with the file in it, under "X:\"

    Hope this helps.

@Network23, thanks for your help. I haven't tried out the pointfix yet, but if I do need it in the future will use it then.
