    Dear reader,

    I recently left my previous employer and copied all my personal files onto a USB-stick from my work laptop. On my work laptop, I had the Symantec Endpoint Encryption, which causes my documents not to open on my personal laptop anymore. All documents have changed to XML-formats (used to be Excel, Word, PDF, etc.).

    I would like to know how I can restore these documents. I used to work on a Windows laptop and now have access to either a Windows laptop or Macbook.

    On my USB-stick, the application "RemovableMediaAccessUtility" can still be found. However, when I try to open one of the documents from here, I need to insert a password which I have never created.

    Could you please advise on this?

    Thank you in advance!

    Regards,

    Céline

    Hi,

    With the way encryption works, you would have a passphrase to supply once required. If your data is encrypted and you don't have that passphrase, there is very little chance of you actually recovering that data. Only options would be:

    1. Ask your previous company what that passphrase was;

    2. See if some 3rd party company can assist you, and if they can, it's going to be very expensive.

    Thanks!
