I'm working on capturing and restoring images to multiple drives in a server, and I'm in need of a little help.
I've created pair of image capture and restore jobs that both attempt to capture/restore an image from every drive on the server. Some servers have more drives than others, so my jobs have more tasks than the server with most drives. I check the error code for "drive not found" and pass the task if it sees that value. This way all my servers can be imaged and restored with a single job.
The problem is that when I go to restore the images to their respective disks, the system won't boot. I've tried restoring the images in ascending and descending order. I've left the "Boot to production to compete configuration task" boxes checked on the first disk and on the final disk in both orders and I still hang at boot. If I follow the imaging tasks with a command prompt I can then use diskpart to set Partition 1 on Disk 0 as active and they machine will boot again. The problem is that there's no way to then have it boot and perform the configuration tasks as dictated by the checkboxes in the "distribute disk image" task.
My question is: Is there something I'm doing wrong with these image restore tasks? Also, how important are the "configuration tasks" checkboxes? What sort of configuration work is done on these servers that I don't specify in the job?
