  • 1.  Retrieve PGP Desktop 10 License

    Posted May 13, 2014 08:51 AM

Just joined my company a few weeks ago. Had to replace a user's desktop. They used PGP Desktop 10.0.0 (Pre-Symantec). Unfortuneately, the license information wasn't documented. Is there a way to pull the license from the product? I don't see anything listed in Help >> About or Licensing.

Tried support. They provided a d/l of version 10.2.1 and a new license, but About screen shows Limited Use/Unlicensed Mode and the user gets an error now that the license does not support email proxying.

The user doesn't need the new version. If I could pull the license from version 10 on the old computer, that would be preferable.

Symantec can give you a new license.  You just need to make sure the license you have has the same features.  Sounds just like Symantec need to reissue another license but with mail proxying enabled.

    Hi there,

You may want to clarify the licensing issue with our customer care department and request them to re-issue another license with messaging functionality. Please click on the link below for their contact phone numbers according to the region:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/assistance_care.jsp

Nevertheless, there is a way to pull the license information from the installed PGP Desktop. You may want to check it in the PGPprefs.xml file. The license key is in general there but it is base64 encoded. You may want to try with the linux command line to try to convert it to the ascii.

If you have further question, please let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Bipin
