Right click action command line does not work

  • 1.  Right click action command line does not work

    Posted Feb 09, 2017 03:17 AM

    Hello,

I would like to add a custom right click action such as remote desktop, ping etc. on Altiris ITMS console. However it does not seem to work. Regardless of command line the error is always the same. Error Running Command. Err=Invalid flags specified.

Here are the screenshots of command line definitions and errors.

I have already imported the required registry entry. There are no errors in the log viewer on NS.

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks

    Tomasz

Try this (download attached "Remote Access.xml" and import it in "User Defined" folder)

    Igor,

Thanks for your input. I do not see any difference in the imported file, except you filter out non-Windows resources.

Anyway, I imported it and I still get the same error:Error Running Command. Err=Invalid flags specified

It is 8.0 HF5 version running.

    Any further ideas ?

Hi Tomasz, I have the same issue after a recent upgrade from 7.6 HF7 to 8.0 HF5.  All my user defined Right-click actions were working before the upgrade, and all that run a command line from the local machine (not "Run at server") result in "Error Running Command. Err=Invalid flags specified."  They run fine when "Run at server" is checked.

    Example:

    Command line details:

Command line 'Ping': ping CAC-AFPD-31422 , run on local machine.

    Hi,

Thanks for the idea. When "Run at server" is checked, the command like ping , indeed is excecuted on the server side. Perhaps for command such as ping it would be acceptable.

But I need to pass the computer name to RDP or Dameware on my local workstation.

    Any other ideas ?

    Thanks

Looks strange because I've checked same on 8.0 HF5 and it works as well as on 8.0 HF2 and 7.6 HF7.

    Igor,

The screenshots are from remote IE. I tested it on local NS and the commands work fine. Those must work on local workstation as the intention is to help my helpdesk analysts in daily support actions.

    Any further ideas ?

    Thanks,

    Tomasz

    Hi Tomasz,

    1. Does NS Log shows any warning/error message about missed permissions when you are trying to run this custom right click menu? What if to use account from Symantec Administrator role for same case on remote I.E of workstation?
    2. Have you installed reg key on remote machine from 'Command Line Right-Click Action Certificate' SMP Console page?
    3. Don't what else can be wrong on remote I.E, compatibility settings, NS Url is in trusted sites, clear I.E cache, etc?

    Thanks,

    IP.

    HI Igor,

    1. NS log does not show any errors or warning, just informational:

EditableResourceItemAction is running parameter substitution query:

    select vr.Guid , vr.Name,t_1.[Name] as 'Name'
    from dbo.[vRM_Computer_Item] vr
    join dbo.[vRM_Computer_Item] vi on vi.Guid = vr.Guid
     left join [Inv_AeX_AC_Identification] t_1 on t_1._ResourceGuid = vr.Guid

    where vr.Guid = '524dda8b-99c5-4307-9dd5-7b01b4990178'

The only error is in the console pop-up windows 'Error Running Command. Err=Invalid flags specified.'

I am in Administrator role on the console.

    2. Yes, I installed the key. I double checked, the values are there in the registry.

    3. I tried to add the NS site to compatibility list, cleared the IE cache still the same error :(. All our intranet sites are in trusted sites set by GPO.

    Any other ideas ?

    Tomasz

I see that command line query is the same on your and my environment.

Maybe that I.E has security settings applied from GPO on your workstation and ActiveX is disabled? Just for temporary check review these I.E settings described below and re-check custom right click action.

    1. Open Internet Explorer.
    2. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
    3. On the Security tab, click the Custom level button.
    4. Scroll down the Security Settings list until you see ActiveX controls and plug-ins.
    5. For Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls, click Enable.
    6. Scroll down to Download signed ActiveX controls and click Enable or Prompt.
    7. Scroll down to Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins and click Enable or Prompt.
    8. Scroll down to Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting and click Enable or Prompt.
    9. Click OK, and then click OK again.

    Igor,

Because my workstation runs Windows 10, to exclude OS as the casue, I built a fresh Windows 7 virtual machine. Surprisingly enough, the RDP command worked, but only once and for first time. Now if I try to run the command line again I get the same known error:'Error Running Command. Err=Invalid flags specified.'

The activeX settings look pretty standard.

Any further ideas why it worked but only once ?

    I opened a support ticket. I received a hotfix - attached.

After installing the hotfix on the test console, the custom right actions work as expected.

    I paste an official response:

This is new issue and very soon article will be public available but you can open in advance with the following format:
    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH239774

This problem already fixed in 8.1 version and for 8.0 it`s will be included in 8.0 HF6 +Cumulative pointfixes, so if you are planing to install latest HF6 version then before this better to uninstall a point-fix:
    right path = 8.0 HF2 with PF>uninstall PF>upgrade to HF6>install cumulative fix.
    or
    right path = 8.0 HF2 with PF>uninstall PF>upgrade to HF5/HF6>install PF.

    Cumulative pointfixes, example for 7.6:
    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.INFO3459.html

    I hope it helps someone.

Just to follow up, I asked Symantec how to go about installing HF6 after installing the PointFix.  Reply from engineering...

“This did not make it into HF6 and there is no PF for HF6 to fix this problem. So, they would not want to put HF6 in until we either have a PF for it, or until it is folded into the next release”
