    After many frustrating attempts install LU first, rebooting, installing SEP only to get the Rollback, the info below corrected the problem on Windows 7:

    The installation of Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client fails and rolls back around the point of registering with LiveUpdate
    Question/Issue:
    When attempting to install the Symantec Endpoint Protection client onto a machine, the installation fails and rolls back around the point of registering with LiveUpdate
    Symptoms:
    Excerpt from SEP_INST.log:
    -----

    LUCA: InstallLiveUpdate enter.
    LUCA: C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Temp\QVQVAICY\LiveUpdate\lucheck.exe
    LUCA: InstallLiveUpdate : CreateProcessAndWait( LUCHECK.EXE ) returned 206
    ActionEnd 12:13:56 : InstallFinalize
    Return Value 3.

    -----

    LuResult.txt (usually in C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate):
    -----

    Solution:

    In the registry,

    Find

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData
    value=%APPDATA%

    and change it to

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData
    value=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming

    Install SEP client again.

    Just a note. If the inital problem that led you to this page was LU1803, Live Update failing when downloading updates, you dont need to reinstall the SEP client, just make the registry change and your existing installation will sort itself out (provided you havent uninstalled anything already in your quest to solve the problem).

    That is curious. %APPDATA% and %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming should point to the exact same place.

    If any of you get the chance, I'd be interested to see what pops up when you try Start > Run > %APPDATA%

    I was having the problem of the installation failing and rolling back over and over again until I ran across this thread.  Edited the the registry and all seems to be working now.  My problem began when I noticed a user's live update wasn't working so I uninstalled endpoint and when I tried to reinstall is when this problem began.  Thanks for the solution!

    Hi,

    Follow the steps

    1) Disable UAC

    2) Follow the article - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH103109

    3) Run setup with administrator credentials.

    4) Copy Setup files locally on the computer & run setup files, don't push through SEPM console.

    If you could install latest version 11.0.6 MP3 then it would be more helpful.

    Dear Prachand, Thanks for your exact reference for this solution !!!

    The information in that link is worked for me !! successfully installed SEP 11 !!!

    for my other friends am specifying the solution mentioned in that topic link...

    In windows registry (start menu >> run >> regedit ),

     Find the Key Value:-

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData
    value=%APPDATA%

    and change it to

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData
    value=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming

    Install SEP client again.
