  • 1.  Running Altiris on an IIS Website Other Than "Default"

We are trying to install Altiris on a shared application server.  We have completed the following:

    1) Installed Altiris "normally" to the Default Web Site

    2) Exported the site to a txt file.

    3) Re-imported the site as a new name and assigned it to the IP created (and binded (bound? :)) to the server's NIC

This seems to work fine UNTIL we add in the host name in the Host Header Value of the Add/Edit Web Site Identification, which gives us the ability to use the DNS hostname assigned to that separate IP.  When we add that in there, we are prompted for a username/password when we launch the NS and no valid credentials are accepted.

When we go IP-only, we get the same prompt and are able to login fine with our valid credentials.

Does anyone else have experience setting up IIS this way?  We are trying to avoid using a port besides 80 and are sharing this server with several other web-based applications.

This is the relevant extract from the NS 6.0 SP3 Release Notes:

2.7 Upgrading using another Web site besides the default

If you are upgrading to Sp3 using a Web site different from the default you must adhere to thefollowing information. When the Notification Server is installed, it is automatically configured touse the default Web site. The default Web site is listening on port 80, with no host header, andconfigured for all unassigned IP addresses.

If you have another Web site that you want Notification Server to use, you should run the installation program with the WEBSITE command line argument.

    Example:

    Altiris_NS_6_0.exe –a /s /ALL:a “WEBSITE=MySite”

In this example, the installation runs in Silent mode and the parameter “WEBSITE=MySite” ispassed to all MSIs in the executable.

Note: MySite is the name of the Web site that you want the Notification Server to use and cannotcontain any spaces.
