I have run into a problem where encryption on Lenovo X series laptops does not work. I started the encryption at 4:00 PM. By 9:00 PM that night, the encryption had only gone to about 8%. I decided to leave it overnight and see if it would eventually finish. When I came back to the laptops in the morning, I saw that the laptops had both restarted/crashed.
One laptop attempted to boot up to the SEE Full Disk initialization screen, but then errored out and displayed that the storage media was not readable or not detected. This laptop was running Windows XP. I was able to use the SEE Full Disk Recovery disc to undo the encryption.
The other laptop was able to boot up Windows, but displayed that Windows was missing some system files. I was unable to open SEE User Client or Administrator Client to decrypt the encrypted files. I had to use the SEE Full Disk Recovery disc to undo this encryption as well.
I still need to be able to encrypt these laptops. Is there a fix for this problem? The Lenovo T series laptops encrypt without a problem. The X series laptops are very similar to the T series laptops aside from the small size and no optical drive.I believe the hard drives are the same too.
I pulled these Lenovo X series specs from the Lenovo website:
