  • 1.  SENS events error -Altiris Agent 6

    Posted Dec 03, 2010 04:32 PM

I have an agent installed on a computer that is giving me an interesting error that I am not able to track down in the KB or on connect. I saw the error in the log when I was trying to figure out why it was not receiving a GUID.

    The error message is:

SENS events unavailable: Access is denied. (-2147024891)

The entire entry from the log is:

    Log File Name: C:\Program Files (x86)\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Logs\Agent.log
    Priority: 4
    Date: 12/3/2010 4:06:08 PM
    Tick Count: 352545083
    Host Name: IS-0013
    Process: AeXAgentUIHost.exe (3856)
    Thread ID: 6764
    Module: AeXNetComms.dll
    Source: NetworkMonitor
Description: SENS events unavailable: Access is denied. (-2147024891

The agent was not receiving any of its policies and did not have GUID but was able to ping our agent facing server and I was able to browse the nscap directory. After I uninstalled and reinstalled the agent I was able to get a GUID, get part of the policy for the agent, and one software delivery task was able to be delivered and executed, but nothing else. The only solution agent that is installed is the inventory agent package but the policy is not being copied to the local computer. At the very least there should be at least all of the task agents, PM agent, etc, but none are being pulled down.

I checked the console and the computer is in all of the correct collections.

Here is what version of the agent and OS:

    Altiris Agent: 6.0.2416
    Windows 7 Enterprise x64
Firewall rules checked out and controlled by a GPO

    NS 6 SP3 R13

    Thank you,
    Sean

    Hi Sean:

I found this thread that might help.  It is specifically concerning Vista, but Win7 is obviously related.  Is the Systems Events Notifications Service disabled via GPO?  You should be able to "NET START SENS".  Or could there be some security restrictions configured around this service which might deny IPC between SENS and the Altiris Agent Service?  This could be some COM+ restrictions as SENS manages COM+ event notifications, which I believe the NS Agent utilizes.

I found some other posts after Googling a bit that suggest you may find some corroborating information in the Windows System, Security or Application logs (Start/Run/eventvwr.msc) with log entries showing there at the same time.  Possibly related to the Agent trying to authenticate to a remote Package Server using the Package Access Credentials?  Are you using a domain account for the PAC (if you don't know, you probably are, and it is the Application Identity account by default).
