    Hi All,

What's the normal size for your SEP 11 Client install ?

    mine got 700 MB+ in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Definitions\VirusDefs I'm using Windows 7 32 bit.

when I go to the SEP mgr, i found out that there is an option which said "Disk Space Management for Downloads" why by default it is set to 3 ?

can we just leave it one only ?

    Thanks,

    AWT

Its set to 3 because its the number of content revisions that SEPM will hold for the client. So if the client has a older defintions that 3 revisions then it will request a complete full zip file from the SEPM. And it has nothing to do with the Virus def size on the client side. If your virusdef folder is more than 700 MB then do you have any temp files in it. if yes then delete those if not then its ok.
    Check this document

ok, now I have set it up to just one in the SEP manager so that it can reduce the disk space usage companywide.

As I have told you earlier the Setting for the Space on the SEPM no for the client. so if you make it to one I dont think it will make much difference on the client side.

You don't want this setting at 1.  This number controls the number of incremental downloads the server keeps for your clients.  If you set it to 1, then if any client misses a download, it has to download the entire AV definitions instead of the incrementals.  This will consume considerablely more bandwidth and cpu cycles.

Most sites want to increase this setting to allow for more missed updates before having to download the entire definitions.

    Sincerely
    Bruce

Yes, you're right, this will have no effect on the client side... but storing only one revision means the SEPM has nothing but the most recent revision with which to build a delta package... and what this means is that anyone who's more than 1 revision behind will be pulling down the FULL definition package across the network instead of the much smaller incremental package.

(ETA: As Bruce said :) )

BTW, the Symantec LiveUpdate control panel on the client computer can control the size of the Update Cache.

thanks to all for the response.
I'll make it back to 3 as the default.
