Hello,
I have a Windows 2008 file server that is installed with SEP 11 ru5 and the Enterprise Vault File System Archiving agents (this is just the agents, not the EV server). SEP appears to be causing Enterprise Vault for File System Archiving to malfunction on both the Windows file server and on any Windows Vista and Windows 7 clients that are connected to the file shares. Our Windows clients are also installed with SEP 11 ru5. I see the following behaviour:
On a Windows 7 or Vista client that connects to the file server, if a folder that contains archived files is copied to a new location (e.g. the windows desktop), the user is presented with an error message "An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem. Error 0x800710FE: This file is currently not available for use on this computer". If the user presses the "Try Again" button, the file copy does complete, but the user has to press the "Try again" button for each file that is being copied - this is very tedious!
From the testing that I have done, I see this behaviour in the following versions of Windows:
Windows 7
Windows Vista
Windows 2008
And only occurrs with SEP 11 ru5, previous versions of SEP do not show this - the file copy works correctly.
I do not see this behaviour in Windows XP (even with SEP 11 ru5) and nor do I see it with SEP 11 MP4.
I have not been able to locate any tech notes on Symantec's support website detailing this issue nor were Symantec's support able to fix it when I logged a ticket with them thinking it was Enterprise Vault that was cauing the problem.
Has anyone else seen this issue and fixed it?
Many thanks.
