SEP 11 vs NIS 2009

  • 1.  SEP 11 vs NIS 2009

I have client that we have upgraded from SAV to SEP 11 and they are asking if SEP 11 would be an acceptable replacement for NIS 2009 on their laptops.  The laptops are utilized by a few mobile users, mainly for VPN and/or OWA access, as well as incedental personal usage.  I have been unable to find a comprehensive head-to-head comparison of the two products.

    Thanks!

From my understanding NIS 2009 is the home/personal edition.  Where SEP 11 is more of the business edition.  Some of the look and feel (IMO) of SEP came directly from NIS.

    Greetings BStory,

I am unsure whether you will find this as they are designed for entirely different customers. There are some things to note though, NIS is a consumer product and is designed for Home use while SEP is a corporate product. This means the SEP product will have more management functionality for policies and what not while the NIS product will be completely under the control of the user. With SEP you can prevent them from disabling/uninstalling it or a range of other items.

The consumer versions of our products sometimes have newer technology that has not been tested in corporate environments so you would want to be careful in this area and maybe do a test install before sending it out.

Lastly, the support you get with the product has broader scope in corporate than in our consumer line.

Not exactly what you were looking for though I hope it helps.

The main question is will SEP protect a corporate laptop outside the corporate LAN as well as NIS does?  Is the level of protection equivelant?  We're not worried about the Parental & Privacy controls or AntiSpam portions at all.

Yes if you configure it correctly it should protect your endpoint just as well as NIS (my opinion)

Jeff is right , NIS  is for Home user and SEP is an enterprice product.
SEP is more advanced and provided better security .

Thanks!  It's what I was looking for.  Now as NIS subscriptions expire I can replace it with SEP.

    Good decision Bstory...
SEP is great as long as you fine tune the settings to personalize your running policies...

    Hello,

Please understand that NIS 2009 is a Home edition and Endpoint Protection is a Enterprise Product.

    So that explains all....

In terms of Protection... Both are giving you equal Protection. Both Uses the Same Symantec Antivirus Defintions Repository.

However, what has changed in both are features, scan engines, etc....
