  • 1.  SEP 12: NTP definitions not updated on Client

    Posted Jun 19, 2010 10:32 AM
    I run 6 XP Sp3  clients under 12.0.1001.95 on 2003 R2.
One of these is not updating, causing the "Attention Needed" Flag - IPS(!) (definitions) Failure.
At the same time the client is shown as OK in Protecton Center and status as "Good" on the client workstation,
    with last update  5.may 2010r1.

    1. Is this solutions document for SEP 11 also valid for SEP 12?

    2. Or is there new info available somewhere?

Do a repair of SEP from add/remove programs
    remove NTP
    reboot
    install NTP
    reboot; check if that updates.

Somewhat short, need more background information and reference articles. I have a consultant to upgrade the server side, and install client packages from there. Let's see  if I can beat him on a simple solution-:)

    go to the client
    go to the add/remove programs
    select symantec
    select modify'
select proactive threat protection , click on drop down menu and select this feature will not be available
    complete the install
follow the same procedure; install proactive threat protection again.

    Sorry, wrongly cleared solution:

    1. I'am talking about NTP not PTP.
    2. Tried solution on NTP, did not work.
    3. Removed complete package from client, reinstalled Correct client package from server.
Result: NTP not installed(!) That is, instead of definitions not updated..

I find it logical to activate WF on client while searching for solutions, done.

you need to make sure that your manager has the latest NTP definitions
windows firewall might blocked the update
for NTP to appear , a reboot is required.

WF not on during install (or reboot):
    Reboot-Oops, of course.
Took 3 reboots, some problems with Win installer and several error messages, but all modules are now reported as functioning correctly.

    Thanks Kelwin
