SEP 12.1.6 install doesn't see the installed Java 1.7

  • 1.  SEP 12.1.6 install doesn't see the installed Java 1.7

I am trying to install Symantec Endpoint Protection version 12.1 RU6 MP6 on a SUSE linux 11 SP4 64 bit server.  The pre check fails with the error:

Starting to install Symantec Endpoint Protection for Linux
    Performing pre-check...
Error:          Installation requires Oracle Java 1.5 or later whose owner is superuser. Please install the correct version with superuser and Java Cryptography Extension (JCE) Unlimited Strength Jurisdiction Policy Files, and try again.
    Pre-check failed.

I then check the version of JAVA that I have as follows:

    # java -version
    java version "1.7.0"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build pxa6470_27sr3fp60-20161021_01(SR3 FP60))
IBM J9 VM (build 2.7, JRE 1.7.0 Linux amd64-64 Compressed References 20161005_321280 (JIT enabled, AOT enabled)
    J9VM - R27_Java727_SR3_20161005_1253_B321280
    JIT  - tr.r13.java_20161003_125478
    GC   - R27_Java727_SR3_20161005_1253_B321280_CMPRSS
    J9CL - 20161005_321280)
    JCL - 20161021_01 based on Oracle jdk7u121-b15

Looking at another post in the forums it indicated that the JAVA dirs needed to be owned by root.  I checked and all the java related dirs under /usr/lib64 have root as the owner and the group.

Looks to me like have the recommended version of JAVA on the server.  What am I missing???

    Thanks,

    Dan

If I am not wrong we had a similiar issue, and it had something to do with minimum disc space was not not, which is 9 GB. can you check it out as well.

The root partition has 859 GB available.  I think that should be enough.  No other partition has less than 32 GB available.

Any other thoughts on this issue??  I need to get SEP working on this SLES 11 SP4 server.

    Thanks,

    Hello Danh15,

Could you please confirm if you have IBM JAVA or ORACLE Java?

The Precheck says " Installation requires Oracle Java 1.5 or later whose owner is superuser."

please install Oracle Java 1.5 and try the install

    from your log I see

    IBM J9 VM (build 2.7, JRE 1.

Rafeeq, I have IBM JAVA, per the first post on this thread.   I guess I'll have to call support.

Try installing Oracle JAVA, that should do the trick.

this article says about Oracle Java

Install and configure Java to be used exclusively by Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) for Linux

    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO36063.html

This article will guide you in downloading and installing a version of Oracle (Sun) Java that will only be used by Symantec Endpoint Protection for Linux. This will enable Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) for Linux to use its own version of Java that can be installed alongside other versions of Java, without causing a negative impact on a computer.

Did you manage to get this issue fixed?

Rafeeq, sorry for the long delay.  I worked with Micro Focus on this problem and I can't install Oracle JAVA because I have Open Enterprise Server 2015 SP1 running on this server.  Micro Focus says that Oracle JAVA is NOT supported on a SLES 11 SP4 / OES2015 SP1 server; only IBM JAVA.  Is SEP 12.1.6 supported with OES 2015 SP1?

    Thanks,

    Dan
