    I am trying to upgrade our Windows 10 1703 Professional computers with SEP 14 RU1 MP1 (14.0.3892.1101) to 1709 and getting a report that Symantec Endpoint Protection isn’t compatible and must be uninstalled before upgrading (see attached screenshot). Uninstalling SEP on hundreds of computers isn’t acceptable and I need a resolution from Symantec so we can upgrade our Windows 10 computer to 1709 while leaving SEP installed.

    That looks to be the 'refresh build' from a few weeks ago that was pulled due to MS fixing it with a patch. RU1 MP1 is actually now at 3876:

    ...so you may want to try this version instead.

    There are additional troubleshooting steps in this article, which may apply (assuming your Windows version is the same as what's referenced):

    Error: "Uninstall this app now because it isn't compatible with Windows 10" after upgrade to Endpoint Protection 12.1.6 MP1 or later

    Take a look at the Symantec Software Downloads.  I literally downloaded the "newest" version on Tuesday, February 27 at around 3:45pm eastern standard time.  The version I downloaded is   14.0.3897.1101  (14.0 RU1 MP1)  it appears on there download site as 14.0.1MP1.

    Perhaps the newest version doesn't have this issue?

    @Brian,

    I think you pointed me to correct direction with the second link (TECH247909). I chekced the latest ..._APPRAISER_SetupOutput.xml file and found the following:

    <Property Name="LowerCaseLongPath" Value="c:\users\skraft\desktop\sep12ru6mp6\program files\symantec\name\version\bin\ccsvchst.exe" />

    AND

    <Property Name="LowerCaseLongPath" Value="c:\users\skraft\desktop\sep12ru6mp6\program files\symantec\name\version\bin\smc.exe" />

    It appear that the 1709 upgrade detected the downloaded installation files for SEPM/SEP 12 RU6 MP6 and kept them on my desktop. Could this really block the upgrade?

    Yes, I believe it could.

    Thanks Brian.

    Microsoft scanning all files and not just what is installed, seems way too aggressive. I'll delete this old download directory and try the upgrade again later today.

    I was able to complete the upgrade to Windows 10 1709 after deleting the old download directory for SEPM/SEP 12 RU6 MP6 I had on my computer.

    Thanks Brian for pointing in the right directory to troubleshoot and resolve this problem.
