  • 1.  SEP 14 URLs and certificate common names

    Posted Nov 21, 2017 06:09 PM

    Environment:  Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, Internet Explorer 11, SEP 14 MP2.

Does anyone know all of the URLs that SEP 14 connects to and/or the certificate common names that are used?   We found this document https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH162286.html that lists the URLs.

We assume that the document pertains to SEP 14.

We need to exclude the "common names" for these URLs in our firewall.   How do we find the certificate common name(s)?

That article is the correct one to reference.

As for common names, it's either symantec.com or norton.com or just use a wildcard like *.symantec.com or *.norton.com

Usually you could just browse to the URL but they all seem to re-direct to symantec.com or norton.com

Thanks for confirming the correctness of the article.   I guess that "common name" is a matter of definition.   Some people use "common name" and "FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name") interchangeably but that may not be right.   In this case, I think we may need to use the URLs referenced in the article as the "common name/FQDN" for our purposes.  We were looking for documentation specifically for the certificate common names that Symantec uses.

There is a second document https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH163042.html that tells how to test connectivity to the Licensing and Download Insight servers.   Some URLs will redirect to symantec.com and some won't.

We'll probably need to follow up with our firewall people to see exactly what they want.

Just trying to find documentation at this point.
