  • 1.  SEP client update from 11.02 to 11.05 causes MS cluster to die

    Posted Dec 16, 2009 10:46 PM
    Dear all,

using the Upgrade Groups with Package in the manager console, I deployed the new 11.05 client to all my computers and servers yesterday noon.
So wait wait wait nothing happened.

This morning my MS cluster when down. The event logs showed the SEP installer started just before the MS cluster when down.
Appearing the updating of the client changes something in the LOCAL AREA NETWORK connection and cause the MS cluster network resource to when down, hence the whole cluster when down. (Unfortunately the update happened on both the nodes in the cluster at  the same time).

Doing PING will returns "hardware error". I rebooted both servers still the same results.
In the end I when to HARDWARE MANGER, uninstall the network card and re-scan (reinstall), then its ok.

And I missing some patches ? Or updating of clients will always affect the Network connection?

    thanks alot.

Hi, the same features set are used. No changes done.

Frm Rafeeq links, seems that the proper way to do it is:

Installing a Symantec Endpoint Protection client to a cluster server

Situation: This document provides instructions for installing a Symantec Endpoint Protection client to a cluster server.

    Solution: Installing to the cluster
The following is an overview of the steps for installing the Symantec Endpoint Protection client to the cluster server:
    1. Break the cluster by bringing down one of the nodes.
    2. Let failover complete.
    3. Install the SEP client to the downed (passive) node.
    4. Restart the node.
    5. Relink the cluster.
