    Hello,

we have VDI thin clients in organization with limited Hard disk space.

I can't install SEP client on this virtual machines, because there is not nought disk space.

Have Symantec some light version of clients for VDI clients?

Operating system on Thin clients is Windows 7 professional, not Embeded Version.

    Thank You advice.

    Regards,

    Guram

Have you looked at SEP 14? There is a specific install package for VDI clients with a very small footprint:

    Embedded or VDI client

    • Uses virus and spyware definitions in the cloud.

    • Installs only the latest virus and spyware definitions.

The client is approximately 80 percent to 90 percent smaller on disk than dark network Windows clients because they download only the latest definitions

    • The embedded/VDI client includes more size optimizations than the standard client:

      • The installer cache does not save after installation completes. This change means you cannot remove or modify the installation through the Control Panel unless you first copy the installation package to the client computer.

      • The embedded client employs NTFS compression on more folders than the standard client.

    • Handles AutoUpgrade with full installation packages; cannot use deltas.

    • For any embedded clients that are not connected to the cloud, Symantec recommends that you install and enable all protection technologies. These protection technologies include the firewall, Download Insight, intrusion prevention, and SONAR. Symantec also recommends that you use system lockdown to ensure the highest level of security.

Can i upgrade SEPM from 12.x to 14.x with my current license?

Is this clients fro VDI works with Windows 7 Professional edition? Because how i say, Our VDI clients OS is NOT Embeded version.

Applies to 12.1.6 MP3 and above.

If your license is still valid, you're entitled to the 14 upgrade. You should've received and upgrade notification email detailing the steps on what needs to be done to get to 14. If not, contact support.

Yes, should work for Win7 Pro.

    Hello,

Assuming you are installing the SEP 12.1 RU6 version on your Windows 7 Professional machines.

What components of SEP have you installed? Request you to install only AV/AS component.

    OR

As Brian Suggested above, you may consider installing the SEP 14 on your machine.

NOTE: SEP 14 would require you to purchase SEP 14 license, in case you are using SEP 12.1 License.

    Regards,

How much space do you have? The VDI install package should be very small, 85-140 MB, depending on whether content is included or not. The install itself should take up less than 300 MB disk space.

    What are you seeing?

If you're really stuck for in-guest disk space, then there's also DCS:S (agentless AV on VMWare) and SEP for VDI (which is essentially a license bundle that combines DCS:S and SEP), info below:

300 MB disk space i have on my VDI clients, but how i can generate package for VDI?

And how it works? After install standart client on workstation, they download definitions about 2GB. How definitions works on VDI client?

As Brian states, if you go with SEP's Embedded or VDI Client install, the defs are about 80-90% smaller.  To mitigate the reduction in locally stored defs, SEP14 uses the Intelligent Threat Cloud (http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO125351), so that clients can still detect threats that are no longer included in their locally stored defs.

Or if you go with DCS:S alone, then there's nothing *in* the guest apart from VMTools, just be aware of the risks...

    Hello,

In you case, create a custom package with only Core Antivirus and Antispyware feature.

Check this Article for the same -

    https://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-do-i-create-and-configure-custom-symantec-endpoint-protection-installation-package-vers

    package.JPG

The Size of the total package would be 78.27 MB

Once the machine is installed with SEP client, it would require internet to download the antivirus definitions.

They won't download 2GB of content. It will only use the latest available in the cloud.
