  • 1.  SEP Clients switching parent SEPM server by itself

    Posted Nov 12, 2015 03:04 PM

I have some SEP Manager servers, a month ago we change from 12.1.4 version to 12.1.6 version, I created the packages and leave the users the installation, some or most of them reported back well but in my company there are some other SEP Manager server which I don't have access or control, it turns out that some of the users installed a package wich point to other (not mine) SEP Manager server so some of them move there.

after that I recommend to uninstall and reinstall the package I provide, and some other stuffs like providing a fix like SylinkDrop.exe I created from my SEP Manager, in other clients I replaced it mannualy. but doesn't matther what I do, some of the clients are switching back the parent server to SEP Manager which are not mine by itselves (previous wrong installation the did.).

    Really appreciate any suggestions,

When you do an uninstall some remnants are left behind. Have you tried cleanwipe?

Create a new installation package with the "Reset the client-server communication settings" option enabled in the install settings. Using this package to install the SEP clients will reset the client-server comm, if there are already any settings on the target machine.

How to create a client install setting to remove previous logs, policies and reset the client-server communication settings

Have you also tried just pushing a comms package from your SEPM to the machines to repoint them at your SEPM? Hopefully there has not been a password set on the new package to replace the communications package. Then you don't have to cleanwipe and replace the clients just repoint them.

From the SEPM > Home > Common Tasks Install Protection clients to computer > Communications Update Package Deployment > Next > Select the Group you want the machines to go into > Next > Remote Push > either select the machines or search for them and input admin credentials for the machines > Next.

The SEPM will try to replace the Comms package if it can and you should start to the the machines drop into the group selected.

Hi, I have fixed the issue by cleanwipe the installation. and re created the package by using "reset the comm settings" now all my clients are working fine. (could pushed a new comm package since seems there was a password on it.)  but thanks guys for all the help.
