  • 1.  SEP compatibility with Symantec Critical System Protection

I am trying to install SEP RU5 in a Windows Xp PC which has Symantec Critical System Protection in it. The installation keeps rolling back. I tried to install only the Antivirus & Antispyware. Still the same issue. Is there any suggestion to install SEP without uninstalling Symantec Critical System Protection?

    Thank You,

what you need to do is:
    1) diable the SCP client (if the SCP client is configured properly it should move to "safe" application running)
    2) install SEP
    3) re-enable SCP

    now,
please pay attantion that when you re-enable the SCP could kill the SEP client because of some things:
    1) SCP doesn't like that other software is touching files (SEP is an anti-virus, it must touch files)
    2) SCP doesn't like that other software is managing a firewall and blockes things as well.

    things you must do:
    1) open the SCP console and define SEP client as a "Safe program", you could even define SEP as a "Full Priviliged Program".
    2) open the SEP manager and define Centrelized exception policy that would not scan the SCP client folder on clients.

after that both programs would work fine together.

    cheers,
    Naor .P.

if it still fails, paste the sep_inst.log . This log can be found in %temp% ( start--> RUn) folder.

In case you are familiar with the MSCONFIG utility of Microsoft you can try it out. When we use this utility it keeps the core Microsoft services running and disables the third party services. This step would help us understand the reason for the roll back of SEP installation.

    Thank you all...
Yes... disabling SCSP allowed the SEP installation...
