  • 1.  SEP NTP blocking Windows 7 Homegroup

     Hello,
I'm trying to use SEP 11 with windows 7 with my home network but SEP NTP is blocking the IV6p I believe from what I have read.  Is there a way to turn off the SEP NTP firewall and use windows firewall instead?  Thanks for your help.

This is an unmanaged client,Am I right?
    Do as follows.
    Go to add remove programs
    Select SEP
    Click on change.
It will pop up a wizard
In the second screen you select modify click next.
In this screen click on NTP and select this feature not available click next click install
This will un install NTP from your computer

    Hi,

If a similar situation comes up in a managed environment, you can disable a rule from the SEP ruleset. It is called as "Block IPv6"

If you uncheck that rule and apply the policy to that client, I am sure it will work.

Just keeep in mind that SEP's firewall doesn't otherwise know how to handle IPv6, so everything IPv6 would get through if you did that.  The Windows 7 firewall does have IPv6 support.

If this is just a small home network you might want to just switch to IPv4. This is what I run at home and don't see any issues. If you really want IPv6 then disable NTP as suggested above or ( Aniket's rule if the client is managed). Here is a pretty good blog describing the difference http://www.techsutram.com/2009/03/differences-ipv4-vs-ipv6.html. But again in a small home network IPv4 is sufficient.
