I downloaded a new version of SEP and am planning on installing it on the server tomorrow but I have a couple questions...

    1)  Will it just upgrade the software when I run the setup ? I dont want to have to reconfigure everything.
    2)  After the upgrade, will it still see all my existing clients and keep all the settings in the Manager Console?  Just curious of they will show up as managed.
    3)  Since the new software has a newer client, will the older client versions still be able to receive updates and be reported in the Manager Console?

    Thanks

Hi techbeck what is your current version right now?

    Techback,

    1) If you download the new SEP client and do nothing, it will not automatically update all of you clients. You have to either deploy it using a method like the Migration and Deployment wizard or assign the package to your groups

    2) You clients should see the SEPM just as they did previously

    3) Yes, all of your clients should continue to receive updates. You can have multiple client versions deployed.

Sorry Techbeck, I just re-read your question. I thought you were talking about the clients. Your clients can be a different rev than your SEPM. You will have to stop services, but your clients should continue to check in normally

Teckbeck first thing if you are are already using the version 11 i.e. SEP & you just want to upgarde then you can stop the SEPM service & upgarde directly.

But if you are upgarding to the SEP from SAV (i.e. from version 10 to version 11) you may need to follow this document & perform some steps.

    Hope this will help you.

The version I am currently using is 11.0.4014.26.  I want to upgrade to 11.0.4.4202_MR4_MP2 to address a variety of issues I am having.

So, if I read everything correctly, I should be able to install he new over the old and retain all my settings/plolicies...and all the clients will still connect and checkin to the server with not issues....correct?  My main concern is having to reconfig everything and redeploy clients....

    thanks

Upgrade will retain all your policies.settings and client-server communication.
You don't even have to re-deploy "Upgrade groups with package" feature will do this for you automatically.

Do you know if I will get an option to upgrade, or just install the new version like I did the previous one?

Run Install for SEPM--it will upgrade the existing SEPM.
Then you have to assign the package to the groups

Check the 1st doc. in my signature you will how to migrate to MR4MP2 or from a previous version of MR4 to MR4

Ok just installed the new version and when I am trying to start the console manager, I am getting this error....

You cannot log on to the console because the server is not syncronized with the database.  Upgrade teh server and then log on to the console.

Error "You can not log on to the console because the server is not synchronized with the database. Upgrade the server, and then log in to the console" when attempting to log into the SEPM console.

    Getting same error!
The "upgrade.bat to resolve this issue" resolved my problem.

     I did the following:
    http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security....

But did not resolve the issue.

    Thanks,
