  • 1.  SEP11 MR5 Network Threat Protection causes BSOD when installed on Windows 7

Is anyone else having this issue.
We are deploying Windows7 32bit to our desktops and laptops however soon after installing SEP11 with Network Threat Protection the machines crash with a Blue screen of death (BSOD).
After several re-boots the machines just continue to BSOD forcing us to rebuild.  When we install just the AV, Anti-spam and Truscan component it works fine however for our environment we really need the complete endpoint package.  I have debugged the crash dumps and found the file symevent.sys appears however I'm sceptical as to whether or not this is the culprit.
We are using SEP11 build 11.0.5002.333.

Please open a case with Symantec support ASAP. Be ready to provide a full dump so that our engineers can find the root cause of the BSOD. PM me your case number once you have that so that I can track the progress of your issue.

    Best,
    Thomas

    Thanks Cycletech
I did call Symantec Support earlier today but the wait time was 55 minutes and I couldn't hang around.  I will try tomorrow and let you know the case number.

Yeah, Windows 7 isn't quite perfect in every configuration capacity.  Just as a test, can you run 7 on a "default" policy and see if the problem goes away?

I would like to add my BSOD to this issue as well I was able to recover from a restore point. during the install it finshed copying the files started the update software and BSOD.
the version I have is -V11-B4202-75-32Bit

Please post the answer if you find one. Thanks you.

I tried the things suggested in the previous posts.
I also sent up some crash dump files last week however I have not heard anything back yet.
Also did some more testing and found that as soon as a GPO which enabled 'Offline files and folders' was applied it BSOD.  It did this a couple more times and then stabilized.  We have now had a machine running for a few days now running the full install of SEP11 MR5 i.e. with network threat protection and it seems to be OK.
So if you are having any issues have a look to see if you are enabling 'offline files' via a GPO as this could be the cause.
    Please post any thoughts.
