    Hello,

I have customer who is migrating to SEP 12.1.6 from SEP.Cloud.

The customer and I spent a full day trying to find an automated way to uninstall the SEP.Cloud client and then install the SEP 12.1.6 client. It was of no use.

Is there a way to automatically (and silently) uninstall the SEP.Cloud client?

PS: There are about 2000 endpoints to uninstall from so an automated solution would be ideal ;)

    Kind regards,

    Cameron Mottus

Seems to be some tools that exist but not sure they will be silent:

Agree with above instructions, and here's why.

Even if you uninstall the software - either via the Partner Management Console / Hosted Endpoint site - you are going to have to run the Symantec clean-up tools to ensure you have a clean environment for the installation of SEP 12.1.6.

But I don't depend on the Symantec clean-up tools.  After they run I will manually delete the following folders if they still exist:

    C:\Program Files\Norton* and/or Symantec*

    or

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton* and/or Symantec*

    C:\ProgramData\Norton* and/or Symantec*

and then run CCleaner to ensure that all Norton and Symantec Registry entries are eliminated.

After all of that I will reboot one last time before attempting the installation.

And no, Symantec, doesn't make this process easy.  Although I wish, for at least one second, they would.

    Hi,

You can customize the client install settings, under Basic settings "Automatically Uninstall existing security software"

    SEP.cloud_.jpg

SEP.cloud is also in the supported list.

    SEP.cloud uninstall.jpg

Push out SEP client package with custom settings and it should be able to remvoe SEP.cloud version silently.

    Thanks for your suggestions guys

Brian - I found that article a couple days ago and may very well be my fall back plan.

Chetan - I was under the impression that the SEP.Cloud should be able to be uninstalled with SEP.

I had set the SEP package to uninstall existing security software and tested it at the customer earlier in the week. The uninstall failed.

I tried again in my lab this morning. When I try to install the SEP 12.1.6 client configured to uninstall existing security software I get the following pop-up.

    2015-07-24 06_29_54-PINTMGMT01.internal.insentra.net_.au - Remote Desktop Connection.png

Chetan, would you recommend I work with technical support to resolve this issue? I need to set customer expectations quickly. If this does not work we will have to manually uninstall 2000 SEP.Cloud clients.

    Cheers,

    Hi,

Prior to call support I would suggest to user SEPprep tool. SEPprep is an unsupported tool that is designed to uninstall any competitive product automatically. This tool can also launch another application before or after removing all competitive products

Configure this tool to first remove all competitive products (including Norton products) and then launch the SEP installer automatically and silently.

Uninstall third-party security software using SEPprep

what's the Norton version at client OS?

    Hi Chetan,

In the end I used SEPprep as the best solution to my customer's migration. You can check out the process I followed here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/sepcloud-sep-121x-migration-using-sepprep
