  • 1.  SEPM Replication with SQL database

    Posted Mar 12, 2015 06:12 AM

    Hi guys..

We have to install SEPM 12.1.5 into 2 windows 2012 server with same sql database..

    Done:

Install sepm in one server with sql database

And in 2nd  installation(its for replication server) the same sql database is not connected.is it possible to connect same sql database or we need to create another one??

Yes you just need to connect the partner to the same SQL instance.

    All steps are here:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH169451

Just install an additional management server and use existing database.

ya..format is correct.but error is same..

can we use existing sql database or create new one for replication??

Yes, you can use existing SQL DB:

    Savade article:

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/replication-and-considerations

Steps are here for adding a partner:

not connected..unable to connect the  server specified

Yea and you need to troubleshoot why. Can you connect to the DB and is it up using SQL management tools? Are you using the correct credentials? Could a firewall be blocking the connection?

Just to clarify terminology: For replication, it's mandatory to use one database per site. For example, if you have two SEPMs that shall work as replication partners, every SEPM has to use a separate database.

However, two or more SEPMs are able to use one single SQL Server database. But that's a failover and/or load balancing setting, not replication.

    See here:

Setting up failover and load balancing

@Brian :we install sql tool in each sepm server for connecting the database. the credentials are correct and no firewall blocked.

@grep12 : wats is correct steps of replication.

    My process is :

Our SQL server in one server(win2012)

0ne SEPM server install using sql database is successfull

for replication SEPM server we select Existing SQL Database(sem5) and database not connected.

for replication SEPM server we select Existing SQL Database(sem5) and database not connected.

For replication, you need to create at least two sites which are replicating. A site is a combination of SEPM and database. So you need at least two databases for replication.

    See this article:

    Setting up sites and replication

k .so in single site the we can use load balancing and failover

    Yep

one more dout..In second server we need any configuration for failover or load balancing..?

  • 20.  RE: SEPM Replication with SQL database

    Posted Mar 17, 2015 06:35 AM

Just reinstall the second SEPM from scratch. During the second part of the installation (Management Server Configuration Wizard) choose "Custom Configuration" and "Install an additional management server to an existing site". Then enter the SQL server settings.

k.Tats done..Every group, policies are in second SEPM server..is it enough?

Yes. As you have only one database, all SEPM servers pointing to this database will have the same data (clients, groups, policies etc.).

    ##EDIT

Of course SQL Server is a single point of failure, so have to take steps to save the data. You can create a backup schedule under SEPM to start with.
