    Hi Hansen28,

What issue are you attempting to overcome?  SERT is a great tool when used correctly, but there are very often other tools that can do the same thing quicker and easier.  (Also, it does have some known issues as you have seen.)

Cannot browse or boot from USB drives using Symantec Endpoint Recovery Tool 2014

    Many thanks!

    Hi Mick,

I've tried to boot from SERT to perform scanning on PC which don't have internet access (due to security reason). I've tried the XCOPY method provided by Symantec to create bootable USB drive but keep getting the error - Norton Bootable Recovery Tool Failed to launch. Required file not found. Program will exit ERR-0001

Is there anything being detected by the SEP client installed on the machine?

The Threat Analysis Scan of SymHelp works best when it has Internet access, but it can do some good work even without it.  It can certainly be run and perform a TAS scan, and then the saved results (.sdbz) can be sent to Technical Support for analysis.  I would give that a try first.  Tech Support may also be able to inform you a way around the issue with the SERT tool, if you wish.

Please do update this thread with your continued progress!

Apparently SERT does not work properly using bootable USB.

After doing lots of reseach, both NBRT.exe and NRT.exe should exist under SOURCES\SYMANTEC_NBRT.

in my case NRT.exe is not there and it does not even exist in the original ISO from Symantec.

Same issue. From dvd it works. From Usb (2.0 or 3.0) it doesn't works with ERR-0001. So problem is not nrt.exe. Also SERT 2.0.24 doesn't have this file but it works from usb. For SERT 2014 nothing to do. The issue is last version of SERT. Strange that Symantec after one year still has not solved.

    Hello,

    I'm facing the same issue.

Burning a DVD is tedious and nowadays, not all machines have an integrated dvd reader.

Dropping the latest signature defs on the harddisk is boring too.

Nevertheless, this tool is very useful.

Is there any Symantec Corp staff here to give us a roadmap about fixing this problem ?

    Many thanks.
