For those interested in a tech edition with the possibility to work with incidents we have started developing a prototype. Are you interested in being part of the beta, please fill in the form on https://mobileservicedesk.zitac.net/#contact and we will get back when we have come further on and it’s available to test.

The company I work for started implementing Symantec Servicedesk the same day it was released in September 2009. We had been testing the betas for a long time and was impressed by the possibilities we now could offer our customers with Symantec ServieDesk and Workflow.

Although we really like the product and have done a lot of implementations and customization projects there is one thing we still lack to deliver that’s asked for in many implementations, an app for mobile devices !

This year we decided to solve that and create a  solution that could be used by anyone to easily submit incidents to Symantec Servicedesk. Soon a release candidate will be ready and we would really appreciate administrators of Symantec Servicedesk that can help us test and also influence on product features.

For those interested you can read more on http://mobileservicedesk.zitac.net and contacts us to participate.

That's a really good idea and something that Symantec should have thought of if they want to ServiceDesk to gain traction as the mobile view that's currently in place is very limited. I've signed up to participate.

I'll second that. I couldn't believe when I asked at Vision that there still wasn't even an option in their next release. I had asked if, with the ability of mobile browsers today, to at least remove the restriction of viewing an extremely limited site when vieweing from a mobile device and they didn't even do that. It seems crazy and makes it continually more difficult to sell to my staff.

Being able to submit an incident using the app is nice but the feature that we really want is to be able to work tickets from the phone. That would make the product much more versatile and powerful and with all the emphasis that Symantec is putting on mobile this should be the next logical step.

Just wanted to note that the mobile portal detection part will change in 7.1 SP2 MR1 and 7.5, allowing you to control the detection for the mobile portal.

To OP and other Zitac people - Impressive! :)

That is an awesome app :). Definitely going to signup for a test account.

It would be great if we collaborated with third party developers with regards to things like this. I think it would add more value to the SD Product.

Do you know how/where this works? I've read through the docs for 7.5 and can't find anything and I have 7.5 installed in test now. We're an iOS shopand would LOVE to be able to use the portal natively!

Nevermind. I figured it out. The strings are in the web.config for ProcessManager and that works.

I've tried the app and it's pretty neat and allows the end user to view their submit and review their tickets. If they can get the technician edition that allows workers to work, review, monitor their queue, then it would be something that a lot of the companies would be interested and enhance the value of ServiceDesk. Not sure why Symantec can't do something like this for their customers.
