smc -stop command line function

    Good afternoon Symantec Community,

Can anyone provide detail on what smc -stop does specifically?  From what I can tell, the Symantec Management Client service stops but the Endpoint Protection service continues to run.

If we are installing other types of software, will the Protection service still running affect installs in any way?  With the 10.x version I usually stopped all the Symantec services before doing any software installs and restarted them when I was done.

As usual, any information is most appreciated.

SMC -Stop will only stop smc server and not AV service.

however if you stop smc you will be stopping many of the features of SEP like Firewall etc but not AV

So if you want to stop AV before installing a Application you can right click on SEP icon and disable AV or stop SEP service aswell

    net stop "Symantec Antivirus"
