  • 1.  SMP Console freezing after SP2 upgrade

    I have upgraded Symantec Management Console from SP1 to SP2 (mostly for the PC anywhere upgrade compatibility for Macs) I followed the ITMS7.1 SP2 - Best Practices guide and had no issues with the upgrade.

    Since the upgrade my the console keeps freezing when opened on the Localhost (server) if I run the console from an external browser on my local machine all is okay. I have made sure all IE8 updates etc have been done server side, prior to the upgrade the console was fine to run on the server.

    Any ideas?

    What entries, if any, are logged in the Altiris Log Viewer while accessing the console or when the timeout occurs?

    Are you accessing the console remotely using the same username as localhost?  I ask because it's of course going to remember what page you were accessing, and perhaps remotely you are accessing pages that load just fine, while on localhost you are accessing a remembered page which will load very slowly.

    Hi Mike Ihave added some the altiris log viewer logs below, there is no error when I open console and it freezes. I have also noticed the following errors but these are not specifically happening when the console freezes, NB: the guid will change after I have logged on remotely and selected a different page, it only freezes on the server itself for all users.

    I have tried clearing the interent exploerer cache and deleted user profiles and then logged back in with a new profile but makes no difference

    I have also done a repair of the SMP portal page via SIM (currently v 7.1.1005) - no change

    Tried a repair of Alitiris Client Management Suite 7.1 SP2 (V7.1.3) and get an error "The MSI cannot be launched from the current location because it requires write access."

    Error when repairing application:
    Description: Repair of Package D:\program files\altiris\symantec Installation Manager\Installs\Altiris\pcans.msi failed with result InstallFailure

    Have also tried uninstalling Pcanywhere after the above and get the same install failure

    After logging a call with Symantec Support the console freezing has been resolved by upgrading to Internet Explorer 9 on the server.
