Ok so we are looking at using this feature due to the current hardware vulnerability. We currently use the patch notification and does not force reboot and allows user to restart or defer.

I am looking at using this in the policy but when I choose restart computer (at upon success drop down), select 14d for user defer but when I test it all I get is an immediate 5 minute timer counting down to where the user can defer up to 2 weeks. Well I need to know how to get the countdown timer to NOT count down but popup a window and allow them to defer or restart... but DO NOT RESTART..

Thoughts? or point me to a setting I maybe missing?

    Hey @Telefragger,

The snooze & restart options don't work the way I'd like either under Settings --> Agents --> Software --> Patch --> Default Software Update Plugin Policy -->restart tab.  The way it used to work for us was we'd direct users to shut down at the end of the workday and updates would install.  If they chose to put machine to sleep and ignored our recommendation, they'd get a prompt in the morning with the option to defer up to 8 hours (to get through the workday) at which point the machine would force restart.  We had the policy settings set up that when they powered on the machine it would give the prompt within 5 minutes of them powering up so they weren't so into their work day they would often restart right away and not defer (that's why our setting is "during window check every 5 minutes."

Every since 8.0 (maybe it was before that?), we're seeing similar results where it just prompts user every 5 minutes regardless of our settings for deferrals because of our check every setting.  It's annoying but the end result is users are annoyed enough getting prompted every 5 minutes that they restart.

I assume you've tried to change the window check every time and/or change the max deferral time, etc?  If you had longer check in time I think it might help but would still auto restart if user doesn't interact with the pop up.

Here's our settings now in case it is helpful for you

i put a ticket in and the symantec tech helped me. we tested it out... we can set it to a 2w reminder but after 2w it WILL restart... if user does not interact. We cannot have that as we do have machines that are not touched often. He did show me that in 8.x... in our test we set it to restart in 5 minutes... once software installed, it popped up the countdown and we hit postpone. countdown stopped and in 5 minutes window popped back up but WITHOUT a countdown. so we then tested that we can do 999 days...

So I "Could" set it to 300 days and IF it took that long, it would restart but if user was there and hit postpone, message stays on screen and it doesnt reboot.
