  • 1.  SQL Database corrupt - how to restore from SEPM backup to SQL server

    Posted Jun 03, 2014 08:13 AM

    Hi ,

What is the procedure to restore a backup(SEPM backup) from the SEPM to a SQL server. The current SQL DB is now corrupt. How do
I restore the backed up database(SEPM backup) to the same SQL server or another SQL server? Running SEP12RU4a.

back up and restore should be of same version.

You can back up from sepm and restore to sql, its the same procedure like any other.

You can just use the "Database Backup and Restore" wizard under the Start Menu on the SEPM to perform a DB restore.  As long as the SEPM has the connection setup to the DB, the wizard doesn't really care what kind of database it is.

Here's confirmation that you can use that wizard to restore to SQL:

Would it be better to use the same DB name or to restore to another DB name?

How long would 38GB backup file take to restore?

same db name or else when you run migration and deployment wizard sepm will not able to find the db

I'd personally take a SQL backup then use the same DB (because I'm too lazy to run the Management Server Configuration Wizard again to repoint the SEPM at the new DB), but it's really up to you.

The restore duration is very subjective and will depend on what else is going on on the SEPM and SQL servers at the time (as well as hardware specs and performance).

They only way to get an accuaret idea is to run it in a test environment first I'm afraid
