  • 1.  SQL Database Replication Question

    Hi Guys,

I am setting up a new server to move our existing site over to new VM's. Old site does have SQL database. I want to install new site, fresh with it's own SQL DB and have the 2 site replicate data before decomming the old site (using server management lists). Once happy with second site and all data, will upgrade to SEPM 14.

    1. Any issues with SQL - SQL replication (KB Article\how to) Issues with versions etc

    2. Server Managment List good option to move clients?

    3. unable to get SEP 14 download from My file connect - issue with current license structure? do i need to contact support?

    thanks all

I'd recommend tkaing a slight step back to be honest.

    1. If you're doing SQL DB Replication then you're no longer using a "fresh DB" in your new site.  SQL Replication is transparent to SEPM, it doesn't know it is happening, and treats all copies of the DB as its LIVE DB.  While SQL Mirroring and the like is certainly supported (https://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH197242), what you desribed when you mentioned a new SEP Site/Fresh DB/etc., actually sounds like you want to use SEP Replication instead, *not* SQL replication.  In fact, it sounds as if you want to use "method 2" of the below "how to move the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager from one machine to another" article:
      https://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH148555

To help with this, the below articles on SEP Replication in general might e of help:
      https://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH160642
      https://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH93107
      https://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH184455

    2. Using MSL's works fine.  When you create a new SEP Site linked into the same SEP Estate/Farm as a SEP Replication Partner, the SEPM Automatically creates a MSL for the new site, the places the new SEPM as top priority.  Just assign this to the groups when you want the clients to start moving across

    3. You'll need to contact support and/or your licensing partner to ensure your license has been upgraded to a SEP14 one before you can download it.

    Thank you,

Yes, I did mean the SEP Replication with Attached SQL databases... So it looks fairly straight forward of rather moving the databse, i would just be replicating to a new site.

    Thanks for your help.

I changed the priority on the Management server Lists last friday, but still over 70% are reporting to the old enviroment. What do i need to check to make sure that all the clients are reporting to the new servers.
