Hi, please excuse my poor language, i'm French :(

I can't find any clue regarding my Antivirus Corporate Edition 8.0. I've changed my server some weeks ago, so I reinstalled the Antivirus Server, and the System Center. The problem is I can't see any clients, I've uninstalled the antivirus on the clients, and reinstalled it with the CD, or with the shared folder on my lan, and I also tried with the System Center. The antivirus client is installed, but virus definition is outdated (march 2003), and client don't appear ine the System Center. All my computers are XP Pro SP3.

And just a question, Antivirus Corporate Edition is called Endpoint now? I can't find any usefull topic on the forum (maybe my search terms...)

Thanks for helping, my head will explode soon :(

SAV 8 will not detect or remove many of the current threats out there, so I recommend installing a newer version as soon as you can.

If you want to see your clients on your new server you will need to take the GRC.DAT from your program files\SAV directory on the server and drop it on each client in:
    c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\symantec\symantec antivirus corporate edition\7.5

EDIT: Also your virus definitions will not update because we stopped publishing definitions for SAV 8 a while back.

    Hi Lister,

You have two choices either you can upgrade to SAV 10.1.8 or SEP 11 MR4 MP2

    For SAV 10.1.8
Download the latest antivirus software 10.1.8 and do the fresh installation.

Enter the Serial Number provided in the license sheet, which starts from M Or B

    URL to download the software:
    https://fileconnect.symantec.com/LangSelection.jsp

Steps to follow for SAV Server installation:

Unistall the exsiting System Centre Console and Symantec Antivirus Server.
Restart the system and Check IE 6 is updated.
    Install the Symantec Antivirus Server.
    Install the System Centre Console.
Configure the Console for Liveupdate, Administrator Scans, Logs etc..
Run live update on the server.

Steps to follow for SAV Client installation:

Unistall the exsiting Symantec Antivirus Client (as upgradation is not supported).
    Delete the Contents from location:
    c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\symantec\symantec antivirus corporate edition\7.5
Restart the system and Check IE 6 is updated.
Access the SAV server through UNC path ie., \\ipaddress\vphome\Clt-inst and run the setup.

If the systems are in domain you can push the installation through Client Remote Installation.

For SEP 11 installation you need to upgrade the license and you can download the software.
Please let me know if you want the SEP 11 installation and configuration snapshots I can upload the same.

Ok mates, thanks a lot for the infos, I'll try it right now and tell you if I'm ok with the solution.

edit : well, with my serial number, I can only download the Antivirus corporate edition 8.1.8.385a, or the 9.0.7. I can't remeber if I bought the 10.1.8, so I'll try to uninstall the version 8 and install the version 9.

re-edit : So, I've reinstalled the version 9 on the server (Antivirus server and System Center). I reinstalled the antivirus client on my clients (throught the shared folder VPHome). My clients are updated this time (virus definition 07/29/2009 rev.5).
As I still can't see the clients on the server with SSC, I tried to copy/paste the GRC.dat from the server (\prog files\symantec\GRC.dat) to the clients (\docs and settings\all users\application data\symantec\symantec antivirus corporate edition\7.5\GRC.dat), but each time I restart the client, the GRC.dat file is deleted, so the server still can't see the clients.

    Any idea?

The GRC.DAT file should get removed by the client so that a new one could be placed there, either by an administrator or the SAV server. This is expected behavior.

Have you promoted your SAV server to be a Primary server yet? If not this may be the reason that the clients do not show up.

I just uninstalled all my servers before installing the new one, so I promototed it to be the primary server. All my clients have administrator rights, when I try to copy the GRC.dat. Do I have to share a special folder? My server is not a Server version, just an XP Pro, so no domain on my lan. I think it is more a question of rights, because when I try to install the client from the CD, I'm unable to find the server (either with server name or IP adress, but I can ping it, or install the client with System Center).

Yes the best thing you can do is to upgrade your antivirus to the latest version because you might encountered a big problem in your security environment simply because symantec antivirus version 8 is no longer getting an updates from the internet or any other way, it is recommended to upgrade your SAV 8

You can use Makedrop to copy the gRC.dat file
Call support and get this tool its works fine
If you are planning to upgrade from 8 to 11, you may have a look at my article

Well, thanks for all your help, but I just re-found all my serial numbers (SAV 9.0, SAV 10, and Endpoint 11) so I'll just uninstall the SAV 9.0 and hope my clients will be shown in the System Center.

For info, I found, in my archives too, a note from Symantec, concerning the SP2 and Windows Security Center, and a tool to fix a bug (the Windows Security Center didn't recognize the SAVCE); I didn't try to download the tool, but maybe my problem is because of that. This is the link : http://www.symantec.com/region/fr/techsupp/enterprise/sp2/compatibility.html.

Anyway, thank you all for your support, I'll tell you later if I still have this problem with Endpoint 11.

Have you checked the windows firewall?

Having the firewall on would cause the clients to not be able to check-in.

That's great that you have found the license.

Just download the latest ver SEP 11 and deploy the clients.

In this version you don't find and Sever-Client architecture, it is only Client Architecture managed by a Manager console.
