  • 1.  Symantec Brightmail - Third Party DNS RBL - STAT?

    Posted Mar 04, 2011 08:41 AM

Yesterday, I have enabled a DNS RBL from zen.spamhauss.org.

Reputation - Bad Senders - Third Party Bad Senders

Added "zen.spamhauss.org" to the members area and enable it.

The action is set to: Reject SMTP Connection

Now, I will like to have some stats about how many emails has been rejected from this RBL list?

Can you tell me the steps to do, to get this stat?

    Thank,

    -Steve

    Steve,

You can get this from the Message Audit log. You would choose your time period, enter a . in for the mandatory filter value and set the optional filter to Verdict and the value to The sender's domain is in the Third Party Bad Senders list.

I'm glad your jumped into this post:

I saw that option, but when I did my query the result is empty.

The 3rd Party List action is set to:   Reject SMTP Connection

Brightmail should end the connection immediately after the HELO Command, since he already knows that the IP is on a 3rd Party Bad Senders.   So Brightmail have no information for the from, the recipient, etc and that could explain, the query I did is empty.

What else could I try?  Or is there a misconfiguration in our Brightmail somewhere?

With my previous anti-spam I was able to tell the Block count of each list that was set and the % of each blocklist versus good email.

I will like to achieve something like that in Brightmail:

    Symantec Global Bad Sender:  40%

    Zen.spamhaus.org: 10%

    Spam:  10%

    Recipient Rejected: 2%

    Good Email: 38%

Let me know your thought about that?

    Thank!

Since the users email address might be in the whitelist, we will wait to see who the message is from and to before we reject the message.

If the result is empty than means we have not rejected any messages due to being listed with Spamhaus. You may have mis-spelled it though since you typed spamhauss instead of spamhaus.

Here is the correct URL: zen.spamhaus.org
