  • 1.  Symantec CMC Smc error

    We have installed SEP 11.0 MR1 MP1 on a Win2k3 server. The client installation package has all the features except for the Antivirus and Antispyware feature. The client was successfully installed in more than 100 systems. We have configured firewall, application and device control and host integrity policies for the managed SEP client.
     
    After applying policies and restart of the SEP client it generates an error as below:
     
    Symantec CMC Smc has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for inconvenience.
     
    and the tray icon disappears.
     
    This is observed after applying the policies.
     
    Any suggestions, please put forward and reply to this message. Its very urgent.

    I am also getting this on a few clients and would like to know the answer if anyone has it.

    We have already posted the problem to Symantec Technical Support, they adviced the below:
     
    1. Disable all third party firewall( Also Antivirus) including Windows firewall.
    2. Upgrade the SEP to MR2 MP1 and also the client ( this one solved our problem).

    I have tried

    1. Uninstall every Antivirus including SEP , both manual and by using Cleanwipe Tool
    2. Disable Firewall , and also Disable Windows Firewall Services
    3. Disable Windows Time Services
    4. Restart
    Then

    I reinstalled SEP MR4 MR2 , after the installation 's done , the Symantec CMC SMC error popped up right away .
    Still for now , i think using the latest release of SEP doesn't fix this problem .

    Anyone got the exact solution for this problem please kindly advise.

    Simply create a new pakage and deploy it.

    Hi Ajitjah ,

    I have tried that already , but it doesn't work at all ... right after cleanwipe and reinstallation , the message just popped up without restarting the pc (after it's done installing SEP) ...

    So is there any further solution for me to try out .

    I used to think that latest build will fix the problem .  But no...

    Install self managed pakage using the msi pakage in CD1\SEP folder and then manually replace the Sylink.

    Hi Ajitjha ,

    What I have done , is installing the Unmanaged Client via CD1 , the error will come right after it's done installing .

    No need to replace the sylink , because it will just popped up the error right away.
