  • 1.  Symantec corporate edition update problem on itanium platform

    Dear all,
    I am having problem with configuring live update on Itanium platform to collect their Symantec antivirus updates from an internal update server which is running live update administrator utility. Here is the summary of task I have done:
    1. I have installed Symantec system center console to manage my client policies and updates. on this same server i have also installed Live update administrator utility. This is the parent server.
    2. I downloaded virus definition updates for all platforms including itanium platform by selecting appropriate product class. The server is connected to internet and the packages are downloaded successfully into the shared folder I specified.
    3. After this I right click on the group in which itanium servers are residing in Symantec system center console. I select All task --> live update-->configure. I selected internal live update server. I selected the LAN option in Type field, and in the ip address or URL field, I specified the complete UNC path of the shared folder location in which I downloaded the package using the Live update administrator utility.
    4. I right click on the group in which itanium servers are residing in Symantec system center console. I select All task -->Symantec antivirus-->virus definition manager and selected "update virus definition from parent server".
     
    Now when i click live update button on client, it shows the list of items that it will download from server, but does not get updated after the live update session finishes. It keeps showing the old definition updates.
     
    On one of the itanium client, when I connected it to internet, successfully downloaded not only virus definition updates but also virus scan engines.
     
    Please help me; it seems I am missing something here.

    Hi,

    PLease make sure that you have followed the exact procedure mentioned in this article for installing and configuring LUA:

    One more thing, the main purpose of installing LUA is take-off the load from the management server for definitions distribution, and give it to a dedicated machine. Please make sure that if mgmt console is capable of definition distribution, you dont need to use LUA.

    i would like you to tell that i am using an older version of Live update administrator i.e. version. 1.5. My goal is to download symantec corporate edition 10.2 virus definition for itanium platform. i have choosed all the required products in the utility and retrived them from internet. but when i click live update on client, it doesnot find any updates. on clients i am running liveupdate version 3.2.

    when you selectthe lu update on the itanium machine, does the client show connected to LU admin utility? If yes , check the log.liveupdate for more information for failure.

    Hi,
    These are the contants of log.liveupdate from my client machine. My live update server name is AKUSSC. In the log i found that it is contacting the server. in my guess there is some problem with live update administrator configuration. perhaps it is not downloading itanium Ia64 definitions. please help how can this problem be solved.

    To be more clear and specific, here is my liveupdate administrator utility configuration.

    IN the product updates


    Languages for product update = English

    Symantec product line = Symantec Antivirus definition --> Symantec Antivirus Coporate Edition 10.x itanium 64bit definitions

    The directory in which i keep downloads of liveupdate administrator utility contains following files.

    livetri.bak
    livetri.zip
    symtri16.zip
    symtri.zip

    please guide, what is missing?

    make sure you choose SymAllLanguages as well as English

    Thanks i also selected SymAllLanguage along with English and this has caused client to download update from managment server.
