  • 1.  Symantec DLP - Network Discover - Failed to Download

    Posted Jan 16, 2018 06:14 PM

    Hello,

I have a couple of customers who are using Network Discover. During the scans we are getting "Failed to read, Failed to Download" errors.

What causes a "Failed to read, Failed to Download" error? I cannot find any KB articles.

    Example:

1/17/18 10:02:38 AM    WARNING    Failed to read //servername/E$/SyncShareState/Metadata/edb.log; error: Failed to download.
1/17/18 10:02:38 AM    WARNING    Failed to read //servername/E$/SyncShareState/Metadata/meta.edb; error: Failed to download.

    Cheers

    Cameron

"the edb.log is the log file for Windows.edb file. Since Windows.edb itself is a database file for Windows Search service that provides content indexing, property caching, and search results for files, emails, and other contents; the edb.log file will contain all the information about activities done by Windows.edb."

Taking an educated guess that those database files are locked and in use, and Network Discover is unable to scan them.  I would exclude them from scans.

    Hello..

That is correct, the failed to download errors are generally related to files being locked and not available to be copied/downloaded.

    Good Luck
