  • 1.  Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.4.1 MacOS High Sierra (10.13) Support

    Posted Nov 01, 2017 10:25 PM

I am referring to the support page of the latest and greatest release of Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.4.1 for MAC with the link mentioned below

    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH236573.html

This page does not mention anything about the compatibility of the product with MacOS High Sierra (10.13) released in September 2017.

    1. Please let me know if Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.4.1 is compatible with MacOS High Sierra (10.13)
    2. Is there an installation / set up guide for MacOS High Sierra (10.13)
    3. Any specific things to be taken care of (like disabling System Integrity Protection) before installing the product

I am an employee of a Symantec academic client and I installed (via web link) Symantec Endpoint on my new Macbook (OS 10.13 'High Sierra').  Result: computer will not reboot.  Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I don't know for sure, but High Sierra has the new file system, which requires awfully close interaction with any disk encryption. I would hold off until official support is confirmedby Symantec.

Does anyone know if it is safe to install Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.4.1 for the sole purpose of encrypting/decypting mail  messages and individual files when operating under OS X 10.13 (High Sierra) ? I am currently running OS 10.10 but cannot upgrade the OS to 10.11 or 10.12....Apple only upgrades to 10.13 and SED 10.4.1 has only been tested up to Sierra I think? Has anyone had success with High Sierra and SED 10.4.1 ? I have an older SED (10.3.0) barely functioning under OS 10.10.....

LEFSYM: I would make sure that anything you want to upgrade too is actually supported by Symantec, otherwise you could run into a number of issues.

I'm running Mac OS X 10.12.6 now (Sierra) and installed Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.4.1 MP2 HF2 [Build 824]  because the tech support people at Symantec said it would be OK to move from Mac OS X 10.10 to 10.12.x and use their product so that's what I did and I bought Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.4.1 MP2 HF2 [Build 824]

However, the PGP Viewer does not work and now tech support says it's not supported for 10.12.6 and they have to do more research.

Symantec should refund my money or else provide a free update of Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.4.1 MP2 HF2 [Build 824]  that runs with Mac OS 10.12.6 or better yet, that runs with the latest Mac OS (High Sierra OS 10.13.x) which has been out since the fall of 2017 !!!!!
