  • 1.  Symantec Endpoint AV agentless edition ?

    Posted Jul 13, 2017 09:44 PM

    Hi People,

Does anyone here know when or if the latest trend of Agentless Antivirus for Symantec will be released?

My Security manager is now considering to replace the old traditional Symantec AV with this new technology backed by Google:

    https://www.crowdstrike.com/products/falcon-prevent/
    https://www.crowdstrike.com/products/

The current deployment of Symantec is less than ideal since it still requires large install base on every VM and workstations.

Any ideas or comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

There is no "agent-less" install in regards to SEP nor have I heard of one in the works.

Additionally, the links you posted refer to a lightweight agent, not agentless. Have you looked at SEP 14? SEP 14 looks like it competes directly with this as it can also do EDR as well as machine learning and whitelisting and blacklisting. Not sure what the big sell is here. Not to mention the SEP 14 install is much smaller since it uses content in the cloud (ITCS).

I don't know it much but Symantec has an Agentless solution for Virtual Machines on VMWare environments it's called Symantec Data Center Security: https://www.symantec.com/connect/blogs/agentless-threat-protection-symantec-data-center-security-66 (there is a version 6.7 now), if you ask your Symantec Product reseller he should be able to inform you or find some information about it.

    Thanks all for the sharing.

Is there any PowerPoint Slides or websites that show the advantage of SEP client over this Agentless (No AV agent) competitors ?

    I agree with above comment.

Symantec Data Center Security (HIPS / HIDS) has Agentless AV solution for Virtual Machines.

    John,

What exactly does "no agent" mean? From what I see a small, lightweight, agent is installed? How do they provide protection with no agent?

Are you talking about a VM environment. Symantec DCS offers this:

    @All,

Yes, no agent is installed just like the above mentioned next gen Anti Virus https://www.crowdstrike.com/products/falcon-prevent/

John, there is an agent that gets installed - it refers to it as "lightweight"

See the attached files that were distributed to me and my management team.

Does Symantec have the similar technology or better than the one mentioned in the brochures attached ?
