    Hi,

I bought 3 units of SYMC Endpoint Protection 14 Per User I/O Essential 12 months and plan to install the antivirus individually.

From C://ProgramData/Symantec/Symantec Endpoint Protection/CurrentVersion/Data/Config, the sep.slf file indicate

    <product_name>Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.0 Inbuilt Never Expires</product_name>

May I know is this slf file indicate that the antivirus will never expires?

May I know should I activite the license to 1 year expiry date? If need to activate it, how to activate?

are there unmanged clients? with no SEPM?

Managed clients are automatically licensed if the package is exported from SEPM with a paid license or upon first heartbeat cycle.

In the installation drive inside SEP folder there is already a license file sep_NE.slf which is a license file for 1 machine and with no expiration date. It will apply automatically to the SEP unmanaged client.

Here is an extract from the license file:
    <serial_number>Mxxxxxxx</serial_number>
    <product_name>Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 Inbuilt Never Expires</product_name>

you have installed the client has an unamanged client so follow the steps below to install the license

License it as per this document

    You need to license it

To license an unmanaged Windows client

    1. Locate and create a copy of your current Symantec Licensing File (.slf).

Use the same file that you used to activate your license on Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.

    2. On the client computer, place the copied license file into the Symantec Endpoint Protection client inbox. By default, the folder in which the inbox appears is hidden, so use Folder Options to enable the showing of hidden files and folders.

      • On the clients that use Vista or a later version of Windows, the inbox is located by default at C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\CurrentVersion\inbox\

      • On the clients that run 12.1.x on a pre-Vista version of Windows, the inbox is located by default at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\CurrentVersion\inbox

If the license file is invalid or the license installation failed, a folder named Invalid is created and the invalid license is placed into the folder. If the file is valid, it is automatically removed from the inbox after it is processed.

    3. To verify that you applied the license correctly, check that no files appear in the inbox folder.

    4. Check that the .slf file is in either one of the following folders:

      • For the clients that run on Vista or a later version of Windows: C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\CurrentVersion\Data\Config

      • For the clients that run 12.1.x on a pre-Vista version of Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\CurrentVersion\Data\Config

    Hi,

Only pc which required submission of reputation data to symantec need to have paid license, is this mean that the pc do not required paid license if the pc do not have internet access.

I bought 3 unit of license which can use for manage or unmanage client. I planning to install all 3 unit of pc as unmanage client. Now wondering should I place the bought slf file into C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\CurrentVersion\Data\Config  or remain the sep.slf file which indicate "never expired".

If you don't need to do submissions than techincally it will work without a paid license. Now, if you were to ever get audited, that would be a different story. I also don't see how you would get access to support and future upgrades.

    HI,

I successfully install the license file as per the step given in https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO81071.html.

May I know do there have any way to update the antivirus defination manually? or must LIVE UPDATE it?

you can use intelligent update to update manually, however it's better to set it run through liveupdate.
