Symantec Endpoint Protection disabled on startup

After installing 12.1.2 64 bit client of Symantec Endpoint Encryption I now have to manually enable the software each time I restart or boot up my laptop.  There doesn't appear to be any error logs and the policy hasn't changed, all I did was install 12.1.2 exe over the existing 12.1.1 client.  The previous client worked without interaction.

Many thanks for any help provided.

    Hello,

Is this SEP client on the machine managed client or unmanaged?

If it is a managed client, please make sure all the policies are enabled and locked.

Secondly, make sure the "Symantec Management Client" and "Symantec Endpoint Protection" services are in Manual and Automatic start up time respectively.

    Hope that helps!!

    HI,

Have you checked the startup of these services (Automatic / Manual / Disabled), and make the SEP services to start up automatically.

    Regards

    Thanks Mithun,

It is a managed client.  I'm an administrator of my laptop so the policy is enabled but unlocked.  I am not manually disabling the client, this happens when I reboot or turn my laptop on.

Services are set to automatic and manual.

This is only happening with the 64 bit client and the previous 64 bit client (12.1.1) worked fine on my laptop.

Any event log generate related to symantec when you are restarting your system, Restart gain and see if any log generate then share it.

Is the SEP service stopped or just auto-protect?

    Hello,

Is this issue occurying only on 1 of this client machine OR are there more 64 bit machines which are having similar issue?

Could you please provide us a screenshot of the SEP client when you start your 64 bit client machine?

If this happening on a number of 64 bit client machines, are these then all from same group in SEPM?

Since these machines are managed client, check if the Tamper Protection is enabled.

If Tamper Protection is enabled on the Client, it will not allow the service mode to be changed to automatic mode.

Tamper Protection Settings can be enabled and disabled from both SEPM and SEP Client.

SEPM > Clients > Group > Policies > Location Specific Settings : General Settings > Tamper Protection

SEP > Change Settings > Client Management > Tamper Protection.

    Hope that helps!!

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

I don't see any known issue after doing an upgrade from SEP 12.1 RU1 to SEP 12.1 RU2 however I would suggest to uninstall existing upgrade software and do a fresh install of SEP 12.1 RU2.

It was previously working fine & issue has occurred only after an upgrade.

After fresh install monitor the status.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and help.

We only have a few 64 bit machines on our network, I've asked another colleague of mine to test this and it seems to be working fine with his laptop so must just be an error with mine.

The client works fine once I enable the software, I just need to remember every morning to enable it.  I'll see if perhaps there is another service on my laptop which is perhaps causing this and if I find a resolution I'll post on the forum.

    Thank you
