    Hello there,

I was wondering if anyone could give me any advise on the problem I'm having please.

I was on the internet the other day and suddenly my laptop shut down. I switched it on and tried to log in the normal way yet the log in box never appeared for me to log in. I decided to run Window using Safe mode with networking and managed to log in successfully, however I noticed that Symantec had a warning icon in the tool bar saying Symantec Endpoint Protection File system Auto-Protect is malfuctioning so I opened Symantec Endpoint Protection - the Proactive and Network protection is fine and on. However it said Antivirus and Antispyware protection warning saying File system auto-protect is not functioning correctly. Your protection definitions may be damaged or your product installation may be corrupt. I decieded to do a full scan which turned up 30 viruses that have now been sorted. I have also ran two more full scans which have come back with nothing, however this warning has not gone away. Also the nomal way I log into windows is not working correctly (as mentioned before) so I am currently still running Windows in Safe mode.

Does anyone have any advise that would help me? Is there anything that I could download? The laptop is my workplace laptop supplied by my employer. Would I have to ask a technician to uninstall and reinstall Symantec?

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

You can try to use the Symantec Recovery Disk.

    If the
Recovery Disk does not work , ask a technician, if you don't have the installer, to re-install to see if it work after.

I work in an environment where there are around 1800 users located at various locations.

Often I find that the file system auto protect is turned off or malfunctioning in a few workstations.

Reinstalling the SEP client helps but its tedious and not the exact way to solve the technical issue.

Can anyone let me know a logical and easier way to resolve the issue. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks!

I think, making sure that you run the  latest  definitions, and as far as possible the most recent version of SEP would help

Open the sep console and click on Fix All then what it says.

    Hi every one,

Little to add thi issue, we have 4000 of clients connecting to one of the SEPM in which around 500 machines are identified as auto protect off. The complexity in my env is that we have recently upgraded the clients to RU5 from MR4 MP2 (We have password set to Uninstall SEP client). So we have two entries showing in add/remove programs. If uninstall and reinstall is the only possible way to get rid of Auto protect off, then it will be verymiserable to me. So, can any one suggest the possible way to overcome the issue.
