Symantec Endpoint Protection keeps stopping

    Definistions are out of date & i cannot update them as the service stops are four seconds. Cannot uninstall as it keeps asking to restart PC, cannot repair in config settings for the same reason.

    When I try to open the GUI I get the message "symantec endpoint protection cannot open because some symantec services are stopped. restart the symantec services and then open the symantec endpoint protection". 

    I ran the Symantec repair tool & got lots of errors, attached the diagnostic file.

    This has been the third or fourth time I've seen this posted over the past few days. Not sure what's going on but I'd get a support case opened up so they can get some logs and find out what's wrong.

    Hello,

    We understand the situation here as this is a known issue. 

    In your case, If I were in your place I would have made a System restore to an earlier date before 3rd January.

    This happens on applying the Windows Security Update released on January 3rd, 2018.

    uninstalling windows update: 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892) would fix the problem

    Hi Brian,

    Do you have response from symantec here? 

    We are still experiencing this issue but the difference is different KB of microsoft that were patch on systems (servers)... then checking the system icon it has multiple issues.

    Thanks, in my case KB4056892 was not installed. Uninstalling the previous update KB4056891 worked for me.

    Has anyone been able to fix this without uninstalling the Windows update?  I don't want to uninstall a security update for my OS just to run another security program (Symantec).  There has to be a way for Symantec to get around this.

    Hello

    Yes, I would also like a solution without uninstalliing any updates to my OS.

    Please look into this symantec, as soon as possible, and provide us with a solution (without us having to uninstall our updates).

    If you are running SEP 12 Ru6 MP5 you should upgrade to a newer build and you will not see the Symantec crashes.

    I have seen the Symantec Endpoint Protection cannot open because some symantec services are stopped after the 1709 upgrade even for 14.0 endpoints.  We have over a 1000s endpoints that will be upgrading to 1709 and I need a way to determine which ones have failed.  Is there a report I can run?  Symptoms are no icon in the system tray, error when launching:" Symantec Enpoint Protection cannot open because some Symantec services are stopped.  Restart the Symantec services, and thenopen Symantec Endpoint Protection.", also the windows defender firewall has been enabled, and the endpoint no longer reports when online in SEPM.   In many case a clean uninstall needs to be done inorder for the problem to be corrected.
