I know I can use the Intelligent Updater from Symantec to bring the antivirus/antispyware definitions up-to-date on a client machine. If I've been reading correctly, its the policies that are responsible for updating Network Threat Protection and Proactive Threat Protection, yes? If that's the case, how do I import policies from the SEPM to a lone client machine?

    Thanks

If your SEP client is managed by a SEPM, it will get all of those definitions automatically by default.

If you have a standalone SEP client (unmanaged), by default it will get all of those definitions directly from Symantec via the internet.

the Intelligent Updater will only update the AV/AS (antivirus/Antispyware) definitions.

NTP and PTP updates comes from Internet.

from Internet to SEPM from SEPM to CLients

or from Internet directly to the Clients

    or from LUA to SEPM/CLient

It does not come from policies

    Hi Mr. Tony,

Intelligent Updaters are an excellent way to manually bring the AV/AS definitions of a SEP client up-to-date.

There is no equivalent tool for NTP/IDS/PTP definitions- those must be updated via LiveUpdate or receive new materials from the SEPM.

There's no way to manually extract the update files from a SEPM and place them on the client.  Just run LiveUpdate on the client and that will succeed in updating PTP/NTP.

Please let the forum community know if this answers your question!

    Thanks and best regards,

    Mick
