    Hi,

I want to inquire whether Symantec File Share Encryption has the capability to encrypt shares on Unix/Linux OS?

    Hi jawad1987,

    http://www.symantec.com/file-share-encryption/system-requirements/

    --- snip ---
    Supported Storage Systems

        Windows file shares (SMB, CIFS)
        Samba, NAS and SAN volumes
Locally attached hard drives (internal and external)
        USB flash drives
    --- snip ---

But the FileShare itself works only on Windows (also accessible via iOS).

    Hi Dcats

Thanks for reply. Now this is that exactly the thing that is confusing me. On one hand Symantec says that supported Storage Systems also includes Samba but on another that Symantec FIle Share Encryption only works on Windows. So if i have share on a Linux server, can it be encrypted and accessed by clients or not? How does it will work?

    Hi Jawad1987,

You have the compatibility with the file systems, for instance, you can have network shares - this is covered in the supported storage - which needs to be accessed via a supported protocol.
Then you have the client doing the operations which I called above the "FileShare itself".

You should be able to use a share on a Linux server if it will be presented to the client machine in a supported configuration from the previous list. Of course, nothing like testing to ensure that all is in place and works as expected..
