You could try the -ntexact switch - this causes ghost to layout the NTFS filesystem in the same way as it was in the source disk.  By default ghost will defragment and rearrange the file data.

Because you're booting from CD you might have to wait till ghost starts, exit back to DOS, and then use the command line: -bootcd=\CDDVDIMG.BIN -ghostoncd -ntexact

    Hello

I was trying to restore a Ghost image to my PC and got an error :

"ABORT: 25002, Unhandled condition encountered: Attr translation will result in corruption of MFT table."

I am running Norton Ghost For REV Drive on an Iomega 35Gb USB Rev Drive. My pc is a Compaq nx8220 Notebook running Windows XP Professional. The machine wouldn't boot from the Ghost CD so I had to create a bootable REV disk which loads OK but I get the error when restoring. I contacted Symantec via Chat and was told to delete the disk partion and rerun the restore. I tried this but got the same error.

    HELP!!!!!

Have you tried the -ntexact switch as Robert recommended? It's the best thing to use first. If it still doesn't work after that we may need to dig deeper.

By the way, what exact version of Ghost is that bundled with the rev drive? I remember that we did that, but I don't recall exactly when and what exact version it is.

    Hi Nigel

Yes, I booted from the REV boot disk I created and issued the command ghost -ntexact but I got an error "Usage Error 10100
     Invalid switch: ntexact"

I can't find a version number for the Ghost but when I load the program it is headed "Norton Ghost 2003 - Copyright 1998 - 2002"

    Hi,

Looks like the build of ghost 2003 that you have does not support the -ntexact switch.  I've sent you a message on the forums messaging system outlining where you can download a ghost.exe that includes the switch.  This newer exe also includes a fix related to the 25002 error, hence you may not need to use the switch with the newer exe to successfully restore the image.

    Cheers, Robert.

    Hi Robert

I have not received the message. Sorry I'm new, does it come through as an email or do I have to pick it up somewhere?

    Thanks Robert,
I downloaded the program but now I have the problem of replacing the version on my bootable REV drive with the newer version. I can't copy it to the drive because it is write protected and I can't create a bootable with the new program. My PC doesn't have a floppy diskette drive so I can only use the REV drive.

    Any suggestions?

Sorry to be such a nuisance, thanks for your assistance

I'm not sure of a way to get the ghost exe onto our REV drive, however there is another possibility.  The -ntexact switch is an improved version of a different switch that is available in Ghost2003 "-ntc-".  While the -ntexact switch is more likely to resolve the problem, the "-ntc-" switch on your existing ghost 2003 executable may enable the restore to complete.

Based on the complication with using the new executable, I'd suggest trying -ntc- on your current ghost build to see if it's sufficient to restore the image.

    Cheers, Robert.

I read the following you wrote:

I have the same problem with restoring a ntfs ghost image. I get error 25002. The "-ntc-" or "-ntexact" switch does not help i keep getting 25002 or 25058. I have ghost 2003 build 793. Do you also have for me an ghost.exe where this problem is solved. I would be very delighted if you have the solution for me.

    Thanks in advance

The moderator advised there is a newer exe file - the disk is 47 complete. And I need to get this machine up tonight .  Can the new exe file be added to my mail envelope please .. Desperate in Calgary Canada

Hi, I'm seeing the same error as noted in the discussion thread relating to "Abort: 25002" error code.  The "-ntc-" option has no effect for me, and failure continues to occur during restoration.  The integrity of the image checks out fine.  An earlier posting mention that a newer Ghost 2003 image is available with build numb 793 that supports the "-ntexact" option.  Can someone opine as to whether the "-ntexact" option works, and if yes, where the newer ghost executable can be found?  Thanks.

I'm seeing this same error. The ntc has no effect and the image passes integrity check. I'm using Ghost 2003 build 793. Where can I find this newer/fixed executable?
