Ghost Solution Suite

I have created a boot disk on my XP machine with Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 2.5. Can I use that boot disk to create image and restore image on Windows 7 and Vista machine?

If you have the latest build 2269 (see other postings if you have not) then you should be able to handle Windows 7 and Vista - assuming your boot disk is running WinPE and not PCDOS.

 I too support the previous comment. As far as GSS is concerned, You need to worry about the NIC and Storage drivers rather than operating systems. Make sure that you have added the right drivers to your boot package. Also, Only the latest version of GSS(11.5.1.2266) is compatible with Windows 7 . So , Make sure that you have got the latest version of GSS before you proceed.

My version is 11.5.0.2113. how can I get the latest version which support Windows 7. Buy another one, paid upgrade or free upgrade?

What Rajah told is right. You are eligible for free upgradation. This can be done by doing a live update.
Open Ghost Console->Help->Live Update

Else, as Rajah mentioned, You can download the entire software for free from fileconnect.symantec.com

I tried the number on the DVD. didn't work.

numbers (with barcode, on sticker and not on sticker) on the package, didn't work.

Hi,

When you purchased the Ghost solution suite product Symantec would have send you an email.
Email that contains an .slf ( Symantec License File).
In the .slf file you can find your serial number which starts with M followed by 10 numbers.
Still if you are not able to find the serial number you can contact Licensing team.
They will be helping you with the serial number for downloading the latest version

As the others have mentioned you could get it either by installating the latest version of 2.5.1 from fileconnect or updating it through the liveupdate option present in Ghost Console.

But before updating the version of Ghost we have it is always recommended to take a backup of the Console, as it might contain various tasks and clients that are connected to it. I found my colleague bought Norton Ghost 15.0 as well. Is it good for Windows 7?

GSS support forum is meant for support related to GSS versions rather than Norton products. We have a different location for Norton Support ,I believe. But , My understanding is that you are eligible for a free download of the  latest version of GSS with your existing serial number / you can perform a live update as well.
I am sorry to tell that I will not be able to guide you regarding Norton 15 . Regarding Windows 7, I can say that GSS 11.5.1.2266 is compatible .

You could also find your serial number in this way

Open all slf files in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\licenses folder in notepad. Warning, do not save any changes.

Note if any licenses are for  Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 rather than Ghost Solution Suite 2.0.  

You could find the serial number there. If you have the licenses for Ghost Solution Suite 2.0 the you will have to get in touch with the licensing team.

The C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\licenses folder is empty. The version we have is 2.5. My colleague mightn't bought online and had an email to tell him the serial number.  I asked him the email and he forwarded one to me which is the email about Norton Ghost 15. That is why I ask about Norton Ghost 15.

What I can suggest  you is to contact the Licensing team of Symantec.
So that by using some other information like ( Your company name, order no etc) they can help you in getting the License file as well the latest version of Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 2.5.1 version 11.5.1.2266
