    Hello all,
I had a problem with a pc that did not run the symantec application. when I tried to manually activate it in start--> programs--> symantec endpoint protection I got an alert messege saying "management clinet service need to be started in order to run the app, and if I want to run it?
when pressing YES i got error "Failed to start the Symantec Management Client application. Error code returned: 0x80070102"
After removeing and installing the package it worked, BUT my question is- how can I get an alert on computers that has the same problem, the symantec service not running and because of that the computer is unprotected?

    thanks!

p.s- the version is 11.06 32 bit win xp

The Symantec Management Client(SMC) service is responsible for SEPM - SEP communication. If its not running than the SEP client is not communicating with SEPM and if its not communicating with SEPM then the client will not show in SEPM so either you can check the no. of clients in SEPM Vs actucal SEP clients and can compare it or go to the client phsically and check it.

If SMC service is not running that doesnt mean that the computer is not protected. Its just not communicating with SEPM Server and will not get any updates. If you choose No at the alert message then SEP will open up and will work as it suppose to be.

What you could do is to configure a notification from your  SEPM, for client out of date...that will send you a notification about all the computers that are outdated definitions. You can then look on those computers, and see, if smc service is failing to start...as that could also be one of the reasons why clients will not update....

    open services.msc
start the symantec event management service
then try starting the symantec management service.
    update us with the results.

some times uninstall/reinstalling the client fixes the issue.
